16th Kyu Gata                              Shonin – White Belt                 12 Week Program

1. REI-HO:

I) SHINZEN REI (Kotodama/spiritual bow) II) SHI REI (acknowledgment bow)  III) DOJO REI (School bow)

IV) RITSU REI – (up-right bows):  1) Shizen Rei (normal bow)                          2) Gassho Rei (unity bow)

V) ZA REI (sitting bow):

1) Seiza Rei (sitting spirit bow)       2) FudoZa Rei (immovable sitting bow)

3) Jinchu Rei (nod bow)                     4) Shihan Rei (master bow)

2. KAMAE KATA KIHON (I):

1) Seiza No Kamae (sitting spirit posture)

2) FudoZa No Kamae (immovable sitting posture)

3) Shihan No Kamae (yielding posture)

4) Shizen No Kamae (upright/normal posture)

5) Kiba No Kamae (horse posture)

6) Shizen Tai (natural posture)

2] TSUKI KATA (thrusting pattern):       Shikan Ken No Kata (knuckle fists)

3] KERI KATA (kicking pattern):              Sokuyaku Ken No Kata (sole of foot)

4] ICHI MONJI NO KATA: (defensive patterns)

1) Omote Shuto (outside knife hand/palm up)   2) Ura Shuto (inside knife hand/palm down) 3) Fudo Ken (immovable fist)

4) Tsui Ken (hammer fist)         5) Ura Ken (back fist)

 4. TANDOKU TAISABAKI GATA: (defensive movements)

1) Shizen Tai Taisabaki Kata (1, 5, 7, 11 – O’clock)

2) Kiba no Kamae Taisabaki Kata (12, 3, 6, 9 -O’clock)

3) Katate Ichi Monji no Kamae Taisabaki Kata (1, 5, 7, 11 O’clock)


You are now entering a trial period by which you learn how to train individually.  The emphasis is on the concept of rating yourself (on a scale of 1 – 10, where 10 is the highest personal challenge) and “Train yourself in the ways of AVOIDANCE while possessing Fudoshin; the indomitable spirit that never gives up.”
